Neurodivergent Professionals

in the Workplace

An Interaction Design Bachelor’s Thesis Project

Investigating the challenges that neurodivergent professionals face when navigating workplace environments & coping strategies

let’S share stories!

Hi! 👋 My name is Alexa.

As a recently diagnosed neurodivergent woman, this project is deeply personal to me. My goal is to create a meaningful project that brings valuable insights to the neurodivergent community and helps build a more inclusive and accessible future 🌍.

Understanding leads to change. The more we share our experiences, the closer we get to workplaces that truly support neurodivergent professionals.

💡 If this resonates with you, I’d love to hear your experiences. Your voice can help shape real change.

tHE VISION

🏢 Workplaces come with expectations—structured schedules, productivity standards, and specific ways of working. But how do neurodivergent professionals experience these systems?

  • 💡 What challenges do they face?

  • ⏳ How do they manage time, workload, and workplace expectations?

  • 🛠 What strategies help them navigate their professional lives?

👂 This project is about listening and learning—exploring real experiences to uncover the key challenges neurodivergent professionals encounter and identify opportunities for better support. 🚀

WHY THIS MATTERS

📚 Research on Neurodiversity in the workplace is still limited—more voices need to be heard. 🗣️

  • 🏢 Workplaces were not originally designed with neurodivergent professionals in mind—yet many developed their own tools and strategies to navigate these environments. ⚙️🧰

  • 🔍 By exploring the challenges, coping mechanisms, and systems neurodiverse individuals have created for themselves, we can identify valuable insights that may benefit the wider Neurodiverse community. ✨

tHE GOAL

This project aims to listen, learn, and uncover design opportunities that support neurodivergent professionals in the workplace.

By gathering real experiences, we can identify common challenges, explore coping strategies, and highlight gaps in existing systems—laying the groundwork for the next steps in the design process.
